The Reason
Harlem, NY summer of 2001, I began working at Adam and Eve Hair Salon. I was 19 years old, straight out of school. I learned some valuable lessons during this time that have helped me through my journey in the salon industry. I met Kelis while working in my first salon, I began to do her hair for video shoots. Kelis, then connected me to BadBoy producers and I began to do their hair.
I worked doing the producers hair at Badboy Records as well as doing hair for Sean John fashion shows for three years, before moving to California. In California, I rented a booth at a barber shop in Pomona. While there, I was honored to do hair for one of my favorite artist, Jayo Felony and work on the set of Def Comedy Jam in Hollywood doing hair for the comedians. In each salon I worked in I observed the business of hair and appreciated the relationships I gained with my clients and coworkers.
In 2005, Diamonds Black Enterprise was created. Diamonds Black Enterprise is a management company. I managed artists, hosted parties and also produced video shoots. Throughout the years, I lost interest in the music industry but always continued working as a hairstylist. Still managing, In 2017 DiamondsBlackEnterprise.com was created as a platform for people to network online with professional hairstylists and gain access to haircare, skincare, and wellness products directly from professional experienced hairstylist.
Helping people enhance their beauty makes me feel good. I realized my gift of hair at a young age. Then again, when for several years I tried running from doing it. I was always pulled back in by clients who wouldn't let me give up. So I kept going and moved back to New York. I worked at my last salon seven years ago. Since then I have been a freelance hairstylist. Trying to find my way in the world without hair wasn't destined. No matter where I worked I still ended up doing hair in the company no matter how much I tried to hide I was a hairstylist, it is within me.
I started The Royal Queen Hair Collection in hopes of changing the narrative of human hair branding, and ownership within the hair industry. Owning and distributing your own products is not an easy task. It is one I am willing to take. I want to create products that produce definitive results. Years of working in the salon industry I have used numerous products that do not work the way we need them. My goal is to change that.
I searched for a grade of hair through many manufacturers that would not only last for multiple weave installations but also that does not tangle, shed, and feels like silk even after colored. I found the perfect hair suitable for all, with different textures and want every woman who wears this high quality hair to feel like Royalty while wearing it.
After creating the Royal Queen Wig Collection in 2018. I was blessed with an amazing opportunity. I created, colored, and styled a unit for a reality star on Love and Hip Hop Hollywood. The units from, The Royal Queen Wig Collection, are hand sewn and custom designed to your liking.
In 2019, I began to teach youth in a secured facility "The Art of Hair". In the courses they learned, how to make wigs, braiding techniques, and how to do weaves. My goal was to show these young women that they can build a business with their talent, and succeed regardless of all the adversities against them. While Covid has put a halt to the courses, I still have the same goal. I recently created virtual workshops to educate all on protective styles. You can buy tickets now for the "Art of Hair" workshops by clicking the eventbrite ticket link below.
In the 19 years of being a professional hairstylist, I feel that I am helping people now more than I ever did. By creating products for all with my hands that can grow, heal and help hair. By giving women all around the world high quality tresses at an affordable price. By making durable units that make women feel comfortable, beautiful and vibrant.
